Edina Sun Current: Edina adopts preliminary levy with 1.8 percent increase by Katie Mintz.

Edina plans to use fund balance to help ease the burden on taxpayers in 2012. The Edina City Council unanimously set the maximum property tax levy increase for 2012 at 1.8 percent Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Mayor Jim Hovland said “real innovative ideas” helped bring the preliminary levy and budget below two other scenarios presented to the council at a work session last month. The new proposal came from City Manager Scott Neal, who said he maximized the use of a fund balance to reach the $26.25 million levy.
