I’m Chris Rofidal, and I am heading the communication efforts on behalf of the GrandView District Small Area Plan Committee. Last week our committee took a tremendous step forward as we voted unanimously to engage the help of a team of consultants.
Attached you will find a press release (see the text below with links or view/download the PDF) which details our recent efforts.
As we move forward during the next 4-6 months it will be extremely important that we hear from key stakeholders in the GrandView District. Are you a business owner or a property owner? Are you a resident who uses the area on a daily basis like our family? If so, please continue to check back and voice your thoughts on how “we” should look to develop this area in the years to come. Decisions are made when you show up, so please take a moment to engage in the process and let us know your thoughts.
Edina, Minn., Aug. 19, 2011 – A community-led team of residents and business and property owners has selected a team of consultants to help develop a small area plan for the GrandView District.
Last year, a Community Advisory Team made up of Edina residents led a process to determine the future of the City’s former Public Works site on Eden Avenue and the area surrounding it, known as the GrandView District. The group met several times during April 2010 and developed seven guiding principles for the area. At the time the principles were adopted, the Edina City Council also agreed to embark on a small area planning process for the area and retain ownership of the City’s Public Works property until after a study is complete. The community-led small area planning process began in April 2011 and is being led by a 50-member Steering Committee.
At its meeting Aug. 18, the Steering Committee also recommended a work plan for the project, which will be completed over the next four to six months. The City Council is expected to act on the recommended consulting team and work plan at its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 6.
“Our community-led process has broken new ground for Edina. We have worked hard over the past few months to organize community members and other key stakeholders. Now, we look forward to engaging those folks and others in creating a plan for the future of the GrandView District,” said Steering Committee Chair Kevin Staunton.
A $100,000 grant through the Metropolitan Council’s Livable Communities Demonstration Act will defray the costs of the year-long planning process.
Grandview Communications coordinator Chris Rofidal has created this GrandView District Small Area Plan poster (PDF) and says to feel free to share it with your friends and neighbors. Chris also notes:
If you are a business owner, we would welcome the posting of this flyer in a central area of your business.
Note the QR Code in the lower right corner of the poster. This allows anyone with a smartphone to scan the code (app needed) and be taken right to the Grandview page on the City of Edina’s website where they can get more info… and follow a link back here.
You can even scan the image here in this blog post, which seems pointless until you realize that it’s a much faster way to add the URL to the favorites/bookmarks of your smartphone’s browser than manually typing it in or doing a web search for the site.
